South Carolinian Christopher Gadsden designed the flag that bears his name in 1775 shortly after the outbreak of the Revolutionary War. The flag was adopted by the Continental Marines as a motto flag. Today, the flag is often used by those who think that the US government has become too powerful and too dangerous to the rights of Americans. This high relief round, which was released by Intaglio Mint, pays tribute to the rich tradition of the flag. Powerful Gadsden Flag Design

The round's obverse features the imagery of the Gadsden flag. A coiled rattlesnake bears its fangs prepared to strike at anyone who would threaten it. The snake is in the grass and is surrounded by a field of stars. A rim frame with two inscriptions encircles the image. The inscriptions read, "DON'T TREAD ON ME" and "LIVE FREE OR DIE."

On the reverse, the logo of the Intaglio Mint is set against a radial burst. The logo consists of a Roman column set against a backdrop of a world map. Like the obverse, this face has a rim frame. Inscriptions in the frame read, "TWO TROY OUNCES" and ".999 FINE SILVER."
